A state court imposed a 20-year sentence for attempted murder on a defendant who stabbed Professor Dhammika “Dom” Dharmapala in the neck while shouting: “This is my goddammed country - I will kill you.”  The attack occurred on December 7, 2011 at 5:40 a.m.

Hogan Lovells, LLP awarded 2013 Vincent Roper Pro Bono Advocacy award by the Maryland and D.C. Crime Victim’s Resource Center for their amicus brief in the United States Supreme Court on the winning side of Maryland v. King. The Hogan Lovells team, led by Neal Katayal, former Acting Solicitor General of the United States, wrote for the winning side in support of the collection of DNA from defendants arrested for violent offenses in Maryland. WGW lawyers Julie Grohovsky and Shanlon Wu were on the brief with the Hogan Lovells team.
